Patricia Heavey

Dr. Patricia Heavey is a Lecturer in the Department of Sport and Health Science at Technological University of the Shannon. A registered Nutritionist and Health Promotion Practitioner, she researches nutrition's role in women's health across the lifespan, particularly during menopause, and leads the nutrition strand of the SHE Research Centre focusing on gender data gaps in health science.

Her investigations cover menopausal symptom management, inflammatory bowel disease therapies, and longevity determinants. Recent studies examine lifestyle interventions for perimenopause, multifunctional hydrogels for drug delivery, and social factors in Irish centenarians. She employs mixed-methods approaches including pilot studies, cross-sectional surveys, and biomarker analyses.

Heavey actively contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals through her focus on gender equity in health research. She teaches in the BSc Nutrition and Health Science program and supervises postgraduate students.
