Patricia Denison is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at Barnard College, with a secondary liaison role to the Theatre Department. She also serves as Associate Chair of the Department of English (2020–2024) and has held prior leadership roles including Associate Provost (2014–2018), Chair of the Department of Theatre (2004–2008), and Director of the First-Year Seminar Program (2002–2003). Her research focuses on dramatic literature and theatre studies, with specializations in Victorian drama, modern British drama, and American drama.
Dr. Denison earned her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and a B.A. from the University of Maryland. Her current book project, Pinero in Perspective: Victorian Theatre and Dramatic Modernism, examines the work of Arthur W. Pinero within late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century British drama. She emphasizes historical and hypothetical performance contexts in her scholarship, exploring how dramatic structures intersect with social constructs and audience engagement.
Her teaching portfolio includes courses such as Shakespeare in Performance, Modern American Drama in Performance, and Public Speaking. She actively participates in post-performance discussions and panels across New York City. Her published works include articles, book chapters, and an edited collection on John Osborne.
