Dr. Pat O'Grady is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Music at the Australian National University (ANU), serving as Education Lead and convenor of the Contemporary Music Production and Honours programs. His research focuses on studio-based music creation, recording technologies, and the latent elements influencing musical outcomes. He leads Addi Sounds, a community recording studio in Sydney promoting access to underrepresented groups. Qualifications include a PhD, MRecordArts, BMus, and AdvDipMus.
Research interests encompass Popular Musicology, Music Production, and Songwriting, with a focus on how recording tools shape artistic value. He has authored Bee Gees, Process and Latent Elements in Music Production (Routledge, 2025) and contributes to journals like Journal of Music Production Research. Professional experience includes 25+ years as an artist/producer, with album releases and artist collaborations.
His work bridges academic and community spheres, advocating for inclusive music production practices. Scholarly roles include editorial board membership and Treasurer of IASPM-ANZ (2019–2024).
