Pascal Lupien is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Brock University. He holds affiliations as a Fellow at the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC, York University) and co-coordinator of the Groupe de recherche Afriques-Amérique latine (GRAAL, University of Alberta).
Education includes a PhD and MA in Political Science from University of Guelph, MIS from Université de Montréal, and BA (Honours) from McGill University.
Research focuses on participatory democracy, social movements, and political participation of marginalized communities. Current projects examine Indigenous women's use of ICTs across Bolivia, Ecuador and Canada's Yukon Territory, and migrant political participation in Argentina and Brazil. Work emphasizes community-based approaches and decolonizing methodologies.
Publications analyze Indigenous civil society, digital activism, gendered participation mechanisms, and pandemic policy responses. Recent articles explore social media's dual role in enabling mobilization while creating new vulnerabilities for marginalized groups.
Welcomes graduate students in Latin American politics, Indigenous politics, social movements, and participatory democracy. Leads SSHRC-funded research on Indigenous women and ICTs and coordinates international research networks.
