Professor Parveen Ali is a distinguished academic serving as Professor of Nursing and Gender Based Violence at the University of Sheffield's School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery, with a joint position at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH). She joined the School in 2014 and currently serves as Deputy Director of Research and Innovation. As a Registered Nurse, Registered Nurse Teacher, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and Fellow of the Faculty of Public Health, Professor Ali brings extensive clinical and academic expertise to her role.
Her research focuses on gender-based violence, domestic abuse, health inequalities related to gender and ethnicity, and healthcare professionals' preparation. Professor Ali is a mixed-methods researcher who has led numerous projects examining intimate partner violence from victims' and perpetrators' perspectives, health inequalities, consanguinity and genetics, and strategies to improve healthcare experiences. She is Editor-in-Chief of International Nursing Review and developer of innovative educational resources including the 'Supporting victims of domestic violence' training materials and 'domestic abuse training game'.
Professor Ali's recent publications reveal two dominant research streams: gender-based violence (particularly intimate partner violence across diverse cultural contexts) and the intersection of global crises (nuclear weapons, climate change) with health outcomes. Her work spans qualitative, quantitative, and policy-focused studies with significant international collaboration, particularly with Dr. Kamran Abbasi.

As a leader in her field, Professor Ali serves on various grant awarding bodies and research ethics committees in the UK and internationally. At DBTH, she focuses on developing research capacity among Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals, demonstrating her commitment to translating research into practice improvements.
