Charlotte Ashworth is a PhD research student at the University of Sheffield, affiliated with the School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations. She is supervised by Dr. Michaela Rogers and Prof. Parveen Ali, and her research focuses on child-to-parent violence and abuse using mixed methods. Charlotte is part of the Centre for Care’s PGR Group and the Sheffield Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Research Network.
Her research interests include:
- Local authority research capacity building
- Child protection
- Contextual safeguarding
- Serious youth violence
Charlotte has published a 2024 article on scoping reviews in Trauma, Violence, & Abuse, exploring family dynamics and abuse interventions. She has secured significant funding through the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) for her predoctoral and doctoral work.

Charlotte teaches modules on Children’s Safeguarding and the Signs of Safety practice approach as part of the MA Social Work programme. She is a registered social worker with Social Work England and a member of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW), contributing to practitioner-led research initiatives in Manchester City Council.
