Partha Narayan Mishra

Dr. Partha Narayan Mishra is an Assistant Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) and holds concurrent roles as a Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Wollongong (Australia) and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland (Australia). His research focuses on geotechnical engineering challenges in tailings storage facilities (TSFs), electromagnetic soil characterization, and bioinspired geotechnical solutions. He has industry experience with Rio Tinto and Klohn Crippen Berger, addressing practical engineering issues in TSF management.

Dr. Mishra earned his PhD from the University of Queensland with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Theses. His academic journey includes a dual degree in Civil and Geotechnical Engineering from NIT Rourkela, where he secured top academic honors. He has supervised multiple PhD and master’s students, focusing on topics like soil dewatering and geotechnical waste utilization.

His awards include the Institute Gold and Silver Medals from NIT Rourkela, the International award for early-career research in unsaturated soil mechanics, and multiple fellowships in teaching excellence. He serves on technical committees like ISSMGE’s TC106 and reviews for high-impact journals such as Acta Geotechnica and the Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering.

Dr. Mishra has secured grants totaling over AUD 100,000 for projects like biomediated TSF solutions and geoenvironmental characterization of mine wastes. He co-founded the AGERP lecture series, reaching global audiences in geotechnical education. His research spans 30+ peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing sustainable geotechnical practices and advanced material characterization.
