Parsia Vagefi

Parsia Vagefi, M.D., is a Professor and Executive Vice Chair of Strategy and Finance in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He also serves as Chief of the Division of Surgical Transplantation and Executive Clinical Director of the Solid Organ Transplant service line. His expertise lies in liver transplantation and complex hepatobiliary surgery.

Dr. Vagefi holds an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University, a medical degree from Yale School of Medicine, and completed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute fellowship at Harvard Medical School. He trained at Massachusetts General Hospital (residency in general surgery) and the University of California, San Francisco (abdominal transplant fellowship). Before joining UT Southwestern in January 2018, he held progressively senior roles at Harvard as a staff surgeon.

His research interests focus on advancing surgical transplantation and hepatobiliary practices, alongside strategic and financial leadership in academic medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of professional organizations including the Society of University Surgeons and the American Surgical Association.
