Hiroshi Sogawa

Hiroshi Sogawa, MD, MBA, FACS is Professor of Surgery (Pending) at Yale School of Medicine and serves as Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program at Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital. With over two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience, Dr. Sogawa is a highly accomplished abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon specializing in liver, intestine, multivisceral, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, with particular expertise in living donor liver transplantation and minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery.

His research interests span Liver Transplantation, Hepatobiliary Surgery, Transplant Immunology, Immune Tolerance, and Transplant Oncology. Dr. Sogawa's work has significantly contributed to understanding machine perfusion in organ preservation, outcomes of multi-organ transplantation, expanding donor criteria including older donors, and managing complex transplant scenarios like positive crossmatch transplants and transplant in elderly recipients.

His publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output, with numerous high-impact publications in 2024-2025 focusing on contemporary challenges in transplantation including normothermic machine perfusion, viral infections in transplant recipients, and transplant oncology. His research shows a clear trend toward improving transplant outcomes through technological innovation, expanding donor pools, and addressing immunological challenges.
