Prof. Paolo Salomoni leads the Nuclear Function Group at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) affiliated with the University of Bonn. His research focuses on chromatin dynamics in health and disease, particularly in the brain and innate immune systems. He investigates how disruptions in chromatin regulation contribute to neurodegenerative diseases, inflamm-aging, and age-related conditions, leveraging mouse models, patient-derived materials, and advanced (epi)genomics. Key collaborations include teams at the University of Bonn, Altos Labs, and international institutions.
Research highlights include studying the role of DAXX/histone H3.3 complexes in cancer and neuroinflammation, and identifying chromatin vulnerabilities for therapeutic targeting. His work integrates bioinformatics and computational biology, supported by DZNE, DLR, and German Cancer Aid funding. Salomoni’s group explores the epigenetic basis of neurodegenerative pathogenesis and inflammation, with recent findings on RTE derepression mechanisms in aging.
Grant activities include ERC funding and collaborative projects on brain tumor microenvironments and interferonopathies. He collaborates widely, engaging in networks across neurobiology, oncology, and immunology.
