Paola Profeta is a Full Professor of Public Economics and Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Sustainability at Bocconi University. She leads the AXA Research Lab on Gender Equality and has held academic positions at institutions including the University of Pavia and Université Catholique de Louvain. Her research focuses on gender economics, public policy, taxation, and political economy, with interdisciplinary insights from demography and management. Profeta teaches courses on welfare economics, public finance, and diversity policy at undergraduate, graduate, and PhD levels.
She coordinates the MSc in Politics and Policy Analysis and has contributed to policy initiatives on gender equality, including Italy's board gender quotas. Her work bridges academic research and real-world policy, emphasizing the economic benefits of gender equality. She advises organizations like the Italian Ministry of Equal Opportunities and writes for major Italian newspapers.
Profeta's research highlights include studies on gender quotas' impact on corporate performance, electoral rules affecting women's political representation, and the gendered effects of the pandemic on labor and caregiving roles. Her contributions span over 50 peer-reviewed articles and books, including *Gender Equality and Public Policy: Measuring Progress in Europe* (2020).
