Prof. Panos Merkouris is a Professor of International Law at the University of Groningen, holding the Chair on Interpretation & Dispute Settlement in International Law. He leads the ERC-funded TRICI-Law project examining customary international law interpretation. His affiliations include editorial roles at the Leiden Journal of International Law and the Netherlands Yearbook of International Law. He is a member of the Young Academy Groningen and chairs several international law study groups.
Education: PhD (Queen Mary, University of London, 2010), MSc (UCL, 2005), LLB (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 2002).
Research Focus: Legal sources (treaties, custom), interpretation principles, dispute resolution mechanisms. His work bridges theoretical and applied aspects of international law, with emphasis on environmental law and human rights.
Awards: ERC Starting Grant (2018), Young Academy Membership (2019), Brandon Fellowship (2011).
