Pamela Zinn is an Assistant Professor of Classics at Texas Tech University, affiliated with the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures. Her research focuses on Latin literature, Hellenistic philosophy, Greco-Roman intellectual history, and the Classical Tradition. She specializes in Golden Age Latin poetry, particularly Lucretius' De rerum natura, exploring themes like Roman contributions to Hellenistic philosophy, animals in antiquity, and ancient theories of mind and senses. She is currently writing a monograph, Lucretius On Animals, supported by grants from the ACLS and Loeb Classical Library Foundation.
Dr. Zinn teaches Latin language and literature, as well as courses like 'Animals in Ancient Thought' and 'Plagues and Perceptions in Antiquity'. She advises graduate and undergraduate students on research related to Latin poetry, Epicureanism, and Roman cultural history. She serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in Classics and is actively involved in interdisciplinary initiatives at Texas Tech, including the Women's and Gender Studies Program, 'The Animal' in the Humanities Working Group, and the Honors College's Pi Squared program.
Her publications span Lucretian scholarship, ancient philosophy, and textual analysis. Recent awards include the Loeb Fellowship (2021-22) and a Scholarship Catalyst Grant (2020). She co-organized the 2019 international conference Animal/Language: An Interdisciplinary Conference, showcasing her commitment to cross-disciplinary collaboration.
