Jason Nethercut is an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida Tampa, serving as Head of Classics and Associate Chair & Undergraduate Director in the Department of World Languages. His research focuses on Latin literature, Roman culture, and the intersection of European colonialism in Africa with Neo-Latin traditions.
- Specializes in Republican Roman poetry
- Editor of the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Ennius
- Author of Ennius Noster: Lucretius and the Annales (2021)
- Active research on Ennius and Homer, and Athenian Tragedy's reception in Roman literature
His publications span topics such as Lucretius' didactic elements in Vergil's Aeneid, Empedocles' influence in De Rerum Natura, and allusive techniques in Roman poetry. He engages deeply with intertextuality and poetic metaphor studies, particularly in Epicurean and Hellenistic contexts.
Currently under contract for a monograph on Ennius and Homer, Dr. Nethercut continues advancing scholarship on Roman Republican epic traditions. His work bridges classical philology with broader cultural discourses, including colonial paradigms in Afro-European literary interactions.
