Sarah McCallum is an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the Department of Classics & Religious Studies in the College of Humanities. Her research focuses on Latin and Greek literature, particularly Republican/Augustan poetry, Roman elegy/epic, and intertextuality. She specializes in authors like Vergil, Ovid, Lucretius, and Hellenistic poets such as Homer, Hesiod, and Callimachus. McCallum explores themes like love in Roman poetry, cultural concept evolution, and ancient literary traditions.
Recent publications include Elegiac Love and Death in Vergil's Aeneid (2023) and co-edited volumes on classical mythology. She teaches courses like Augustan Literature, Prose of the Roman Republic, and classical language classes. McCallum has received accolades including the 2024 Provost Award for Teaching Innovation and a WAC Faculty Fellowship.
