Pamela Barnes

Dr Pamela Barnes serves as Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for BA Acting, BA Drama, and BA Drama Combined at the University of Chester's Department of Communication, Screen, and Performance within the School for the Creative Industries. She additionally holds an Affiliate role at the Centre of Academic Innovation and Development (CAID) since 2023.

Her research centers on performance practice and community engagement, particularly examining how performance breaks barriers in heritage sites and develops inclusive museum practices. Current work focuses on acting for screen methodology, generating original performance pieces and actor training strategies through practice-as-research approaches. She utilizes interdisciplinary methods combining theatre, film, exhibition work, music, and dance.

Analysis of her limited publication record reveals strong emphasis on co-creation methodologies in cultural institutions, with research demonstrating how hybrid museum spaces can transform community engagement and social inclusion.

Dr Barnes brings extensive professional experience to her supervision, having worked as producer, artistic director, and acting practitioner with West End and television actors. Her teaching spans acting, drama, musical theatre, and filmmaking, with expertise in performance practice, applied arts, and actor training for stage/screen. She has facilitated community arts projects with diverse groups and interdisciplinary collaborators.
