Palina Kolvani is a Doctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo and an Associate Researcher at the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Institute at the University of Gothenburg. Her work focuses on democracy measurement, data integrity in governance, and pandemic policy responses. She holds an MSc in Political Science from the University of Gothenburg (2020) and a BA in Political Science, International Relations, and Business Administration from the American University in Bulgaria (2018).
Her research examines democratic governance during crises, particularly how states respond to challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. Key contributions include analyses of autocratization trends and pandemic-related democratic backsliding. She co-authored V-Dem's flagship reports on global democracy, emphasizing data-driven assessments of political systems.
