Professor Pang Yang Hoong is a Founding Dean of the School of Accountancy at Singapore Management University (SMU) from 2000 to 2015, and currently serves as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. She played a pivotal role in establishing SMU’s accountancy program, ensuring accreditation from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS) and integrating practical experience through internships with Big Four firms. Her academic leadership includes curriculum development emphasizing broad-based education and seminar-style pedagogy.
Education: B.A. in Accountancy from the University of Singapore, M.Econ. from Monash University (Australia), and Ph.D. in Accounting from Queen’s University (Canada). Professional roles include council member of ICPAS, board member of Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), and Singapore Polytechnic board of governors.
Research focuses on corporate disclosures, accounting law, and governance. Key contributions include pioneering the SMU accountancy curriculum, fostering industry partnerships, and advancing research output ranked 10th globally in accounting by 2009. She is recognized for holistic student development through internships, co-curricular activities, and leadership opportunities.
