Dr. Ozan Ozavci is an Associate Professor of transimperial history at Utrecht University's Department of History and Art History. He specializes in global north-south relations, focusing on security, diplomacy, and public health in Europe and the Middle East. His research is supported by prestigious grants such as the ERC Consolidator and NWO Open Competition M awards. Ozavci leads the COOPERATION project on public health diplomacy and co-founded The Lausanne Project, exploring the 1923 Lausanne Treaty's legacy.
Education: MA and PhD in History from the University of Manchester.
Research Interests: Imperial military and financial interventions, Ottoman diplomacy, and transnational public health collaborations. Ozavci’s work bridges diplomatic and security history, emphasizing entangled histories between Europe and the Middle East.
Recent Projects: Co-authored the graphic novel De la lumière a l'ombre (2024) and edited volumes like Securing Empire (2024) and They All Made Peace (2023). He also leads the NeUUrodiversity Project at Utrecht University.
Awards: Fernand Braudel Fellowship (2014), ERC Consolidator Grant (2023), and Fellowships at the Royal Historical Society and Utrecht’s Centre for Global Challenges.
