Dr. Owen O'Daly is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Neuroimaging at King's College London, affiliated with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience. His research focuses on functional neuroimaging to investigate dysregulated motivation and control in eating disorders, as well as the neural mechanisms underlying psychological treatments like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and exposure therapy. He also explores brain activity changes in conditions such as anorexia nervosa, diabetes-related hypoglycemia, and obesity disorders. Dr. O'Daly leads the MSc Neuroscience: Neuroimaging (B5) module and serves on the Neuroscience MPhil/PhD Sub-Committee.
Key collaborators include Prof. Ulrike Schmidt (King's College London), Prof. Rachel Batterham (UCL), and Prof. Stephanie Amiel (King's College London). His work integrates pharmacological imaging, resting-state fMRI, and task-based studies to understand neural correlates of mental health disorders. Recent studies highlight attentional network dynamics in depression, anhedonia-linked brain activity, and predictive biomarkers for treatment responses in fibromyalgia and chronic pain.
Notable research themes include the neural basis of failed inhibition in eating disorders, the impact of diazepam on hippocampal connectivity in psychosis risk groups, and the role of subgenual connectivity in major depressive disorder. Dr. O'Daly's collaborative projects span clinical and translational neuroscience, emphasizing translational applications of neuroimaging in mental health treatment.
