Professor Ourania Filippakou is a faculty member in the Department of Education at Brunel University London, affiliated with the College of Business, Arts and Social Sciences. Her research focuses on the politics of higher education through comparative historical analysis, higher education policy, and social justice.

She has secured grants from institutions like the Economic and Social Research Council, British Council India, and European Commission for projects on gender equality, pedagogic quality, and higher education governance.
Recent publications analyze authoritarianism's impact on education, comparative openness ideologies in UK/Greece open universities, and gender policy critiques in Indian higher education. She served as Co-editor of the British Educational Research Journal (2017-2021) and Council Member of the Society for Research into Higher Education (2016-2020).
