Ourania Kouka

Ourania Kouka is Professor of Prehistoric Aegean Archaeology and Deputy Director of the Archaeological Research Unit at the University of Cyprus. Her research examines Aegean, Anatolian and Cypriot prehistory with focus on cultural interactions and settlement organization.

Education:

• PhD in Prehistory and Protohistory, Ruprecht–Karls Universität Heidelberg (1997)
• BA in History and Archaeology, Ethnikon & Kapodistriakon University of Athens (1985)

Research interests include Bronze Age settlement patterns, cross-cultural interactions in the Eastern Mediterranean, ceramic technologies, and early urbanization processes. Fieldwork projects encompass excavations at Heraion on Samos (2009-present), Liman Tepe in Turkey (2000-present), and prehistoric sites across Greece.

Publications demonstrate expertise in material culture analysis with recent archaeometric studies of pottery technologies. Research themes cluster around maritime networks, cultural connectivity, and technological innovation in prehistoric economies.

Directs the Laboratory for Archiving, Study and Publication of Excavation Projects and leads interdisciplinary projects on Bronze Age ceramic traditions and cultural borders.
