Dr. Orson Nava is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Film Production at Ravensbourne University London. He holds a PhD from the University of East London, focusing on Race, Innovation, and Creative Industries in East London's regeneration. Previously a freelance director for BBC, Channel 4, and ITV, his work spans documentaries and music videos for artists like Harvey from So Solid Crew and grime crews Bombsquad and Ghetts. His research explores the intersection of race, urban space, and creative economies, with notable projects like Multicology? (2019) examining racial diversity in creative sectors. Nava's academic writings analyze grime music's role as a form of radical ethnocartography and its socio-political implications.
His films include The Building (2023), exploring AI ethics, and Everyday Borders (2016), funded by the EU, which examines migrant experiences under the 'hostile environment' policies. He has lectured at institutions including the National Film and Television School and London Film School. Awards include the 2021 Best Short European Drama for A Viable Candidate.
