Ong Chee Wee

Adjunct Professor Ong Chee Wee is Managing Director of ONE SMART Engineering Pte Ltd and holds academic roles at NUS and NTU. He specializes in geotechnical engineering, tunneling, and infrastructure projects. With 26 years of experience, he is a registered Specialist Professional Engineer in Tunnelling, Geotechnical, and Civil Engineering in Singapore. He earned his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from NUS.

Professional Roles:

• Serving on ISSMGE Technical Committees TC207 (Soil-Structure Interaction), TC212 (Deep Foundations), and Asian Technical Committee ATC6 (Urban GeoEngineering).
• Member of Enterprise Singapore Standards Council (Civil & Geotechnical Works) and BCA Multiagency Work Group for Pile Load Test Guidelines.
• CEE Mentor at NTU School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Research & Awards: Notable contributions include co-authoring the ISSMGE Combined Pile Raft Foundation Guideline (2013). His research on tunnel-soil-pile interaction and centrifuge modeling earned him the Best Contribution Award (2008) and TUCSS Hulme Prize (2009). Projects under his supervision received SCI Excellence Awards (2013) and PUB Model Site recognitions.

Teaching & Mentorship: Co-supervises NUS Doctor of Engineering (EngD) candidates, co-lectures M.Sc. Capstone courses at NUS, and evaluates FYP posters in Geotechnical Engineering. Serves as a Guest Speaker at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and delivered lectures at Shanghai Tongji University on 'Green Geo-System: Build and Sense'.

Industry Contributions: Qualified Person (Supervision) for major transport infrastructure projects, including Downtown Line Tunnels and Cross-Island/Jurong Island–Pioneer Cable Tunnels. Recognized as a Qualified Erosion Control Professional (QECP) and trainer for PUB ABC Waters certification programs.
