Dr. Michael Brown is a Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Dundee, leading the Geotechnics Research Group. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Civil & Structural Engineering from the University of Bradford (1995) and a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2004), focusing on rapid load testing of piles. His expertise includes offshore geotechnics, renewable energy foundations, and silent foundation systems. He has held roles in industry and academia, including managing the SUBR:IM project and serving on technical committees like ISSMGE TC212 and TC104.
Research interests span screw piles, offshore wind foundations, pipeline installation, and seismic tunneling. He has secured significant grants (EPSRC, etc.) and pioneered innovations like silent piling and drag embedment anchors. Notable awards include the ICE Geotechnics Medal and Telford Gold Medal. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable energy and infrastructure.
