Olivier Lopez is a Professor of applied mathematics in actuarial science at ENSAE IP Paris, affiliated with the CREST Laboratory (Finance-Actuarial). He serves as co-director of the Master's program in Statistics, Finance, and Actuarial Sciences at Institut Polytechnique de Paris. Previously, he directed the Institute of Statistics of Sorbonne Université (ISUP) from 2016 to 2023. He is a fully qualified member of the French Actuarial Association (Institut des Actuaires) and chairs its scientific committee. Since June 2024, he has been the General Secretary of the French Institute of Actuaries.
His research focuses on applying statistics and machine learning to actuarial science, with emphasis on emerging risks (cyber risk, natural disasters), survival analysis, copula models, and high-dimensional issues. He leads the CARE research chair (funded by Allianz France) and co-leads the CyFi project on cyber insurance financialization with Citalid, supported by BPI France.
Lopez teaches courses on duration models, emerging risks in insurance, and extreme-value theory. He actively engages with the French and European actuarial communities, representing the Institut des Actuaires in the Education Committee of the European Actuarial Association since 2019.
