Olivier Ferlatte is a Professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine within the School of Public Health at Université de Montréal. He is also a regular researcher at the Centre de Recherche en Santé Publique (CreSP). His research focuses on stigma, substance use, and mental health among 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities, with expertise in syndemics and intersectionality. Ferlatte holds a bachelor’s degree in Sexology from Université du Québec à Montréal and a master’s and Ph.D. in Public Health from Simon Fraser University, British Columbia.
Affiliations: Member of the Centre de Recherche en Santé Publique (CreSP), director of Qollab (a community-based research lab), and recipient of a Junior 1 Salary Fellowship from Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS). He collaborates on projects addressing LGBTQIA+ health equity, including Clinic Mauve (transforming healthcare for migrant and racialized communities) and Pride Talk (suicide prevention intervention).
Research Interests: Intersectional approaches to health disparities, qualitative and mixed-methods research, community engagement, and policy-informing studies on LGBTQIA+ populations. His work emphasizes participatory methodologies and addressing systemic inequities in healthcare access and mental health outcomes.
Grants and Projects: Over 20 projects funded by agencies like the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), FRQS, and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Notable initiatives include identifying mental health disparities in LGBTQ+ youth cannabis use and exploring resilience among older gay men during HIV/AIDS and the pandemic.
Awards: Junior 1 Salary Fellowship (FRQS) and leadership in interdisciplinary training platforms like the 2SLGBTQ+ Health Hub.
