Dr. Olivia Basu is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Freiburg, affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence liv MatS (Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies). Her research focuses on energy autonomy concepts, including photobatteries, photoactuators, and photoelectrochemical H2O2 production. She is currently developing and optimizing anode and cathode materials for aqueous Zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) to enhance their capacity, power density, and longevity for use in integrated solar energy storage systems.
She holds the prestigious Agnes Pockels Fellowship (2023), recognizing her contributions to materials science and energy research. Her work aligns with the broader goals of the livMatS cluster, which explores bioinspired technologies and interactive materials. Olivia Basu collaborates closely with her first supervisor, Prof. Dr. Anna Fischer, and participates in academic events such as the livMatS Colloquium, engaging with experts like Prof. Chun-Xia Zhang and Prof. David Kanhoff.
While no formal grants or advising roles for students are explicitly detailed, her research emphasizes low-cost, high-safety energy solutions as alternatives to traditional lithium-ion batteries. The livMatS cluster serves as her primary research environment, fostering interdisciplinary innovation in materials and energy systems.
