Rev. Oliver Williams, C.S.C., is an Associate Professor of Management and Organization at the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame. He also serves as Director of the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business. His research focuses on business ethics, corporate governance, and Catholic social teaching, with emphasis on the intersection of virtue ethics and corporate culture, particularly addressing historical issues like South African apartheid. Williams holds a doctorate from Vanderbilt University and degrees from Notre Dame. He previously served as Associate Provost at Notre Dame (1987–94) and as Chair of the Social Issues Division of the Academy of Management.
His professional roles include Director of the UN Global Compact Foundation Board (2006), Extraordinary Professor at Stellenbosch University (since 2014), and leadership in editorial boards for journals such as Journal of Business Ethics and South African Journal of Business Management. His research output includes 22 books and numerous articles, emphasizing themes like sustainable development, UN Global Compact initiatives, and ethical leadership.
Notable awards include the 2019 SUMNER MARCUS Award and recognition as a Pioneer in Business Ethics (2020). His work bridges ethical theory with practical corporate governance, advocating for business roles in global peacebuilding and social responsibility through frameworks like 'Business for Peace.' Key engagements include advising multinational corporations on sustainability and chairing international conferences on corporate citizenship.
