Dr. Oliver Perra is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on early childhood development, particularly in infants born preterm and children with cerebral palsy. He leads the Northern Ireland Cerebral Palsy Register (NICPR) and chairs the Surveillance of Cerebral Palsy in Europe (SCPE) network. His work includes interventions to improve cognitive and social skills in at-risk infants and population studies of childhood disabilities. He teaches evidence-based practice in midwifery and advanced statistical methods for longitudinal studies.
Research Interests: Investigating developmental pathways, maternal mental health impacts, and implementing early interventions. Current projects include the NICPR and feasibility studies of cognitive training for preterm infants.
Publications span developmental psychology and public health, with a focus on attention control, developmental outcomes, and healthcare policy. Awards include the 2022 Vice Chancellor’s Research Impact Prize. Supervised PhD topics include preterm infant development, cerebral palsy outcomes, and palliative care teams.
