Dr Himanshu Popat is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney and Senior Staff Specialist Neonatologist at The Children's Hospital at Westmead. He co-leads research at the Grace Centre for Newborn Intensive Care and chairs the NSW Newborn Intensive Care Unit Study (NICUS) group, which audits mortality and morbidity outcomes in high-risk infants.

His research focuses on neuroprotective strategies for preterm infants, implementation science for proven interventions, and early cerebral palsy identification. Key projects include the WAMM Study (delayed cord clamping), NURTURE Study (brain oxygenation), and NEOSTeM Trial (stem cell therapy for neonatal stroke).
Recent publications highlight chronic lung disease trends, developmental care education, and targeted oxygenation protocols for preterm infants. He has secured major grants including $2.9M MRFF funding for the WAMM Study and $1M Cerebral Palsy Alliance grant for the NEOSTeM Trial.
