Dr. Doug Blank is a Senior Research Fellow and consultant neonatologist at Monash University's Department of Paediatrics, affiliated with The Ritchie Centre. He holds dual roles at Monash Health and Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. His research focuses on neonatal resuscitation, delayed cord clamping, and video review of clinical emergencies. He leads trials on preterm infant care and coordinates NICU trainee education.
Education: PhD in 'Umbilical Cord Management at Birth' (Monash University, 2019); MD from Virginia Commonwealth University (2006). Awards include the Monash 3MT People's Choice Award (2016) and Dean's Thesis Excellence Award (2020).
Research Interests: Innovations in neonatal resuscitation, umbilical cord management, lung ultrasound for fetal-neonatal transitions, and team performance improvement through video analysis. Current projects include the SURFSUP RCT (2022–2027) and neonatal resuscitation trials for premature infants.
