Prof. Dr. Oliver Diggelmann is a Professor of International Law, European Law, Public Law, and Political Philosophy at the University of Zurich since 2010. He holds the Chair of these disciplines and serves as Managing Director of the Institute for International Law and Comparative Constitutional Law. He previously served as a Professor at Andrássy University Budapest (2006–2010) and held visiting positions at institutions like Yale Law School, UC Berkeley, and Harvard University. His academic journey includes a Doctorate from the University of Zurich (1998), an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge (1999, Chevening Scholar), and a habilitation thesis (2004).
His research focuses on international legal theory, human rights, transitional justice, and the history of international law. He has authored/co-authored numerous monographs and edited volumes, including Swiss Constitutional Law (2020) and International Law, History and Fundamentals (2018). He regularly contributes to legal journals and media, addressing contemporary issues like the Ukraine war, Gaza status, and Switzerland’s neutrality.
Key roles include mentoring the Swiss Study Foundation, organizing the Dietrich Schindler Lectures, and advising on legal matters (e.g., China-Switzerland agreements). His awards include the Chevening Scholarship and senior fellowships at leading institutions. He actively engages in public discourse through media interviews and podcasts, emphasizing the relevance of international law in global conflicts.
