Oleksandr Roik

Oleksandr Roik is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine. Since 2003, he has held various academic positions at the Department of Physical Chemistry, progressing from Junior Researcher to his current professorship. His research expertise lies in physical chemistry, materials science, and the development of nanoporous metal-based catalysts for energy applications.

Research Focus: Professor Roik's research centers on the development of cost-effective electrocatalysts and advanced electrode materials based on nanoporous non-noble metals and alloys. His work involves vapor phase dealloying (VPD) using M-Zn precursors (M = Cu, Co, Ni, Fe) to create materials for CO2 reduction, oxygen reduction, oxygen evolution, and hydrogen evolution reactions. He also investigates the structure of liquid alloys and the relationship between local atomic structures and crystalline/quasicrystalline phases.

International Collaborations: Professor Roik has established collaborations with several prestigious institutions, including the Institute for Metal Physics of the NAS of Ukraine, V. Bakul Institute for Superhard Materials of the NAS of Ukraine, Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and Donbas State Engineering Academy. He has completed internships in France (2013) and Slovak Republic (2016-2017).

Scientific Awards:

• SAIA grant from the Slovak Republic's National Scholarship Programme (2016-2017)

Research Projects: He has led and participated in several significant projects, including the current State Research Project "Nanoporous 3d metal-based catalysts" (2022-present), and previously received funding from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (2010).
