University of Arkansas for Medical Sciencesمعرفی
Nukhet Aykin-Burns is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy, with a secondary appointment in the Human Toxicology Program at The University of Iowa. Her research focuses on reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial function, and mechanisms of radiation-induced (IR/UV) normal tissue damage, wound healing, and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-induced oxidative stress. She also leads efforts to develop radioprotectors and radiomitigators for Acute Radiation Syndromes (ARS).
Recent publications highlight her work in radiation biology, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and toxicant-induced metabolic alterations. Themes include epigenetic regulation of immune cells, antioxidant therapies in radiation injury, and the interplay between environmental toxicants and cellular metabolism.
Her laboratory investigates the molecular underpinnings of radiation and toxicant exposure, with a particular emphasis on mitochondrial-targeted interventions and translational applications for human health.
