Norman Bolter is an Assistant Professor of Trombone at Berklee College of Music, affiliated with the Brass Department and Contemporary Classical Music programs. He has an extensive performance career including 32 years with the Boston Symphony Orchestra (1975–2007), principal trombonist of the Boston Pops Orchestra, and founding member of the Empire Brass Quintet.

His research interests span trombone pedagogy, brass chamber music, and contemporary classical composition. He has recorded extensively with major orchestras and released five albums of original compositions, including Anew at Home.

Bolter has mentored brass musicians (trombonists, French hornists, trumpeters, and tubists) who now hold prominent positions in global orchestras, chamber ensembles, and universities. He co-directs the Frequency Band and conducts virtual/physical master classes worldwide through his multimedia platform Frequency Bone.
