Nora Bouftas

Nora Bouftas is a Research Associate at the Faculty of Science, Department of Environmental Health & Toxicology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, with additional affiliation at AIMMS (Amsterdam Institute for Molecular and Life Sciences). Her research focuses on toxicology and endocrine disruptors, particularly their impact on reproductive health and regulatory frameworks.

Research Focus:
Primary investigations include:

• Mechanisms of endocrine disruption in biological systems
• Regulatory assessment of chemicals in the EU
• Adverse outcome pathway development
• Reproductive toxicology and steroid biosynthesis
• Molecular impacts of environmental contaminants

Project Leadership:
Currently leads the project "Develop adverse outcome pathways (AOPs) for endocrine disruptors (EDs)" (2022-2025) as Project Researcher under Principal Investigator van Duursen, focusing on innovative methodologies for endocrine disruptor identification.

Teaching Activities:

• Co-instructor for Toxicology course (2025-2026)
• Contributor to Toxicology and Development curriculum (2025-2026)
