Noël Valis is the Kingman Brewster, Jr. Professor of Spanish and Portuguese at Yale University, specializing in modern Spanish literature, cultural history, and gender studies. Her research encompasses the Spanish Civil War, religious literature, Federico García Lorca's legacy, and the cultural analysis of celebrity. She holds affiliations with the Royal Spanish Academy as a Corresponding Member and served on the NEH's National Council on the Humanities.
Key achievements include the Victoria Urbano Academic Achievement Prize for her work in women’s studies, Fulbright and Guggenheim fellowships, and the 2023 PROSE Award for her book *Lorca After Life*. Her publications span academic monographs, creative writing, and translated works, addressing topics from kitsch culture to sacred realism in narrative.
