Adam Cohn is an Assistant Professor of Spanish and faculty in Jewish Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holding the JMA and Sonja van der Horst Fellowship in Jewish Studies. His research focuses on modern Spanish cultural production, with expertise in Hispanic Jewish Studies, Spanish Civil War literature, and the works of Federico García Lorca. He teaches courses such as SPAN 301, SPAN 340, and SPAN/JWST 364, emphasizing multiethnic cultures and literary analysis.
Education: Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Spanish from the University of Virginia (2021, 2017, 2015). His current book project examines philosephardi literary culture (1900-1950) and its critiques of nation-state frameworks, engaging memory studies, coloniality, and diaspora. He also researches Sephardi Studies and literary translation.
Publications explore topics like Esther Bendahan Cohen’s fiction, Galdós’s Daniel Morton, and Lorca’s engagement with Jewishness. His work bridges historical memory, urban landscapes, and artistic intersections, as seen in analyses of Carmen Laforet and Salvador Dalí’s influences. He is currently accepting graduate students.
