Federico Bonaddio

Professor Federico Bonaddio is a Professor of Modern Spanish Studies at King’s College London, affiliated with the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He holds a BA from Bristol University, an MA and PhD from Leeds University (1992), with previous academic positions at Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Hull Universities before joining King’s in 1998.

His research focuses on 20th-century Spanish poetry (especially Federico García Lorca), film, and cultural transitions. Key works include A Companion to Federico García Lorca (2007) and Federico García Lorca: The Poetry in All Things (2022). He explores metatextual devices, creative processes, and cultural responses to Spain’s democratic transition.

Teaching spans 20th-century Spanish culture and language modules. Public engagement includes BBC Radio 4 appearances discussing Lorca. His recent work analyzes Lorca’s use of exclamations (2024) and classical influences in his poetry (2022).

Supervision interests include Moroccan literature in Spanish, women writers during Spain’s transition, and Miguel Hernández’s poetry. He contributes to King’s Visual Culture research group and has co-edited volumes on interdisciplinary cultural studies.
