Nkatha Murungi serves as Assistant Director of the Centre for Human Rights and is a member of the Executive Committee at the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria. The Centre functions both as an academic department and NGO dedicated to advancing human rights across the African continent through education, research, and advocacy initiatives.
Professor Murungi's research expertise spans critical areas of human rights law with particular focus on African contexts:

- Indigenous Peoples' Rights
As Assistant Director, Professor Murungi plays a key leadership role in overseeing the Centre's comprehensive academic programs including multiple LLM specializations such as Human Rights & Democratisation in Africa, Sexual & Reproductive Rights in Africa, and Disability Rights in Africa. The Centre offers numerous Advanced Human Rights Courses covering topics from Business and Human Rights to Judicial Enforcement of Socio-Economic Rights.
