Nina Teasdale is a Research Fellow in Sociology at Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom, actively contributing to gender equality research through policy-focused projects with the United Nations, Scottish Government, and Oxfam UK. Her work examines structural barriers in workplaces and care systems while co-leading international research networks.
Her research spans gendered work organization, leadership representation, and care ecosystems, with recent emphasis on pandemic impacts. Key projects investigate flexible working policy gaps, grandparent caregiving roles, and heterosexual couples' care dynamics during lockdowns, revealing persistent gender inequalities in both paid and unpaid labor spheres.
Teasdale's 2021-2023 publications demonstrate consistent focus on care work's centrality during crises, analyzing how pandemic policies exposed systemic flaws in supporting caregivers. Her comparative UK-South Africa research highlights cross-cultural care models while UK-specific studies document how lockdowns intensified domestic inequalities and eroded the 'home as haven' myth.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Nomination for BSA SAGE Prize for Innovation and Excellence (2022)
She currently supervises PhD students and leads multiple grants including Unpaid care and gender expectations in same-sex partnerships (as PI) and COVID-19 and the Centrality of Care project (as CoI/PI), with recent funding from NEST, Scottish Government, and international collaborations.
Teasdale co-leads WiSE's Global Challenges Network of Gender Researchers connecting Scotland and South Africa, and previously contributed to European Commission gender equality reports through the SAAGE expert group (2015-2020).
