Dr Rachel Crossdale is a Research Fellow at the University of Sheffield’s Department of Sociological Studies, part of the School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations. She specializes in research methods, equality, diversity, and aging populations, with a focus on late working life and unpaid care. Her work includes the EIWO project, a multi-country study on exclusion and inequality in late working life, funded by the Swedish Research Council for Health and Working Life.
Before joining Sheffield, Crossdale was a Research Fellow at the University of Huddersfield, contributing to the national Athena SWAN review and a Royal Society of Chemistry-funded study on gender and A-Level Chemistry students’ higher education decisions. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Leeds (2019), where her thesis analyzed archives as research sites, particularly the Carers UK archive, to trace shifts in unpaid care research and social attitudes.
Her teaching spans quantitative and qualitative research methods, including advanced courses for the Nuffield Foundation’s Q-Step program. Crossdale’s research also examines researchers’ engagement with their working environments, blending theoretical and applied sociological perspectives.
