Nina Buer is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences, School of Health Sciences, Örebro University. She joined the university as an Assistant Professor in 2002 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2003 after completing her PhD in Physiotherapy at Karolinska Institutet in 2003. Her academic journey began with a Physiotherapy degree from Karolinska Institutet in 1986.
Her research focuses on occupational therapy, assistive technology (particularly cognitive aids), pain management, and aging-related health challenges. Key areas include fear-avoidance beliefs in chronic pain, geriatric care, and the application of welfare technology in rehabilitation. She leads projects such as Effects of Cognitive Assistive Technology in Individuals with Cognitive Impairments and contributes to the Wellbeing promotion using care environments and technologies (WellCET) research group.
Her publications span rehabilitation sciences, gerontology, and pain psychology. Recent work emphasizes assistive technology for neurological patients and falls prevention in the elderly. Over her career, she has explored the interplay between psychological factors (e.g., catastrophizing) and physical health outcomes, with studies published in Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences, Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences, and others.
