Nikos Michailidis is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Modern Greek Culture at the Department of History, University of Missouri-St. Louis, joining in 2019. His interdisciplinary work bridges sociocultural anthropology and political anthropology.
- Education: PhD in Anthropology (Princeton University, 2016), MA in Political Science and International Relations (Bosphorus University), BA in Political Science and International Relations (Panteion University, Athens).
Research interests span political anthropology, ethnicity and diaspora, music and power dynamics, social memory, and technology’s role in future-making, with a focus on the eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. He explores intersections of Hellenic cultural heritage, material culture, and cultural diplomacy in Turkey and Greece.
Publications emphasize music’s sociopolitical implications, ethnic identity construction, and memory in post-conflict societies. His current book monograph on Pontian-Greek music revival in Turkey is under contract with Indiana University Press.
Teaching includes courses like Introduction to Anthropology, Global Mediterranean, and Democracy in the World, reflecting his expertise in anthropological theory, comparative ethnography, and political systems.
