Nikolai Podoltsev

Nikolai Podoltsev, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Hematology) at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as the Clinical Director of Malignant Hematology in the Department of Internal Medicine and as the Associate Director of the Yale Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program. Dr. Podoltsev is also the director of the Hematology/Leukemia Tumor Board and represents Yale Cancer Center on National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) clinical practice guidelines panels.

Dr. Podoltsev specializes in the management of hematologic malignancies, with particular expertise in acute leukemias (AML and ALL), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) including polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia, myelofibrosis, and chronic myeloid leukemia. His clinical practice also encompasses bone marrow failure syndromes, aplastic anemia, clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP), systemic mastocytosis, and hypereosinophilic syndrome. Dr. Podoltsev's recent publication portfolio demonstrates a strong focus on clinical research in myeloid malignancies, with numerous studies on treatment approaches for MDS, AML, and MPNs. His research is supported by multiple clinical trials through the Leukemia Disease Aligned Research Team (DART) at Yale Cancer Center, where he serves as a Principal Investigator for studies investigating novel therapeutic approaches for hematologic malignancies.

Dr. Podoltsev is actively involved with the Yale Cancer Outcomes Public Policy and Effectiveness Research (COPPER) Center, where he studies epidemiology and patterns of care for patients with hematological malignancies. He collaborates extensively with colleagues including Amer Zeidan, Scott Huntington, Xiaomei Ma, Rory Shallis, and Rong Wang on numerous research projects.
