Niklas Haarbusch is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Münster. He specializes in climate movement sociology, political socialization processes, and qualitative research methodologies. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical studies on sustainability initiatives and social movements. Currently serves as spokesperson for doctoral students in the Graduate School of Sociology (GRASS) and advises the German Sociological Association’s Environmental Sociology section.
Teaching focuses on seminars addressing climate crisis sociology, political socialization in movements, and sustainability theory. Recent courses include 'Sociology of the Climate Movement' (2025) and 'Climate Justice' (2024). Active in public lectures discussing pathways to socially equitable climate futures.
Research highlights include analyzing youth engagement in climate activism, socio-ecological transformation dynamics, and institutionalization processes in grassroots sustainability initiatives. Over 10 peer-reviewed publications since 2016, with recent work appearing in Jahrbuch Demokratiepädagogik, WSI Mitteilungen, and Zeitschrift für Soziologie der Erziehung und Sozialisation.
