Dr. Nigel Fletcher is a Visiting Research Fellow in Politics and Contemporary History at King's College London. He holds a PhD from King's and has taught on the Politics and Contemporary History MA since 2017. His research focuses on political opposition, UK political institutions, constitutional studies, and British political history since 1945, with a particular interest in the modern monarchy. He established the independent Centre for Opposition Studies and contributes to media discussions on constitutional and historical issues.
Education: PhD in History from King's College London; First degree in Politics from Queen Mary, University of London, where he received the Professor Lord Smith Prize for his undergraduate dissertation.
Research Interests: Political opposition mechanisms, constitutional dynamics, monarchy's role in governance, and historical analysis of political figures. He has authored books such as *Institutionalised Dissent* (2024) and *The Not Quite Prime Ministers* (2023), and edited *How to Be in Opposition* (2011). He also hosts the podcast *OppositionCast*.
Publications span books, academic chapters, and blogposts on Substack, analyzing topics like the Duke of York's scandals, constitutional crises, and political leadership. He advises on national archives and has been featured in media discussions on the 2024 UK election and the coronation of King Charles III.
