Professor Niels Lohse is a faculty member at Loughborough University, serving as a Professor of Manufacturing Automation and Robotics and Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Intelligent Automation. He holds a PhD in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management from the University of Nottingham (2006), an MSc in Technology Management from the University of Portsmouth (2001), and a Dipl.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg (2000).
His research focuses on manufacturing automation, robotics, and intelligent systems, with affiliations to IEEE societies including Industrial Electronics, Robotics & Automation, and Systems, Man, and Cybernetics. He received notable awards, including the 2012 Emerald Literati Outstanding Paper Award.
Previously, he served as a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham (2006–2013) before joining Loughborough as a Senior Lecturer in 2014. He contributes to academic leadership roles, including membership in the IEEE Technical Committee on Industrial Agents.
