Prof. Michael Jackson is a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University's Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering and an affiliate of the Intelligent Automation Centre. He retired from full-time academic roles but remains engaged in research and teaching.
Education:
- BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, Salford University (1975)
- MSc in Flexible Manufacturing Systems and Robotics, Loughborough University (1987)
- PhD (CNAA) in collaboration with Leicester Polytechnic (1986)
Research Focus: Jackson specializes in machine systems, automation, and vibration engineering. His work emphasizes industrial applications in advanced manufacturing, robotics, and intelligent automation systems. He has led large-scale projects, including directing the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Intelligent Automation (2011–2017), involving 50+ researchers.

- Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE)
Advising/Grants: Over £13 million in research earnings and supervised over 60 PhD students and research associates. His work bridges academic and industrial innovation, particularly in machine tool vibration and automation.
Labs/Teams: Formerly led the Intelligent Automation Centre and the EPSRC Centre, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
